Karen Kron Dickson (Ms. KK) earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from The University of Detroit-Mercy.  While there, she traveled with the Theatre Company to Athens, Greece and across the country to perform an adaptation of Aristophanes “The Birds”. After graduation, KK lived and worked in Chicago as a professional actress and voice over artist for 10 years. In 2004, she returned home to the Metro Detroit area to raise her 3 children and be closer to her parents.

Locally, Karen has performed with the Purple Rose, J.E.T., Detroit Repertory, Detroit Mercy Theatre Company, Ringwald, Detroit Theatre Collective, Planet Ant, Berman and Matrix theaters.  In 1995 she won "Best Actress" by the Ann Arbor News for her portrayal of "Nellie" in D.H. Lawrences' "The Fox" at the Performance Network.  In 2007 she won the Detroit Repertory Theatre Subscribers Award for Best Actress in their production of "Wrongful Life." In 2017, she was nominated for a Wilde Award as Best Leading Actor in an original play for her performance in the critically acclaimed rock opera "MacDeath" at the Planet Ant Theatre in Hamtramck.

In addition to working as a professional actress, Ms. KK also teaches theatre in and around the Detroit Metro area. From 2008 to 2011 she worked for the Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit as a 1st Stage instructor in their Bi-Lingual Compass Program. From 2009 to 2018 she also taught for The Marquis Theatre in Northville as an instructor and performed as a resident actress on their main stage. Since 2012, KK has been a lead instructor with Open Spot Theatre Company teaching acting, singing and dancing to children and adults with special needs.  In addition, KK has had the immense pleasure of teaching theatre workshops to children with Autism with the esteemed Building Bridges Therapy Center in Northville.

In the fall of 2019, Ms. KK began teaching for Renaissance Academy.  She teaches 1st through 12 grade in various theatre and improv classes. Last year, KK worked closely with Y-ARTS to develop the curriculum for the YMCA’s theatre workshops and summer camps for kids in the Metro-Detroit area.

Ms. KK is thrilled to have been on the MAS team since January of 2019.  She teaches both the kids and teens acting gyms and looks forward to many wonderful adventures with her students in theatre class!
