November Featured Student: Rachelle Rodriguez

We love our students! Each month, we will pick one of our students to feature. Maybe next month it will be you!

What made you decide to start studying acting?

I love storytelling, and I love to witness stories come to life both on stage and on screen. Acting is something that I’ve wanted to try since I was young. However, it took me a very long time to gain enough confidence to give it a try. I’m so glad that I finally decided to fight that fear, and just go for it because not only has it given me more confidence than I’ve ever had in my life, but it has truly changed me and the way I view myself for the better.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever received about the art or craft of acting?Allow yourself to be vulnerable because that’s when the raw truth will shine through. And of course, fire the judge!

Give an example of a breakthrough you've had.

My biggest personal breakthrough has been reaching the moment when I finally felt fully comfortable in my own skin while performing. For me, this has been a big step because before starting classes at MAS, I wasn’t confident enough to get up in front of a group for any reason. MAS has helped me immensely in reaching that moment.

What is your dream role?

Speaking generally, I think it would be so much fun to play the sassy, witty woman because it’s different than what I usually do, and would be a great challenge for me. I also resonate very much with the compassionate, nurturing female roles. Overall, I would love to play roles in projects that send a strong message to the audience, something that makes them think, whether that message be delivered through the reality that my characters find themselves in, or through the project as a whole.

What do you have to say to your fellow MAS students?I want to send a huge thank you to every single person that I’ve had the pleasure of being in class with. MAS provides such a safe environment to learn and grow, and I’ve felt nothing but support and encouragement from everyone. I’m really thankful to be around such inspiring and talented people.
