LET OUR STUDENTS TELL YOU WHAT IT’S LIKE

The Montage Online Certificate Program in Voice Over

Our online certificate program is deeply transformative experience. Here’s how we do what we do:

1.

Small Group Learning

You'll be placed in a small cohort of fellow students for the duration of the program. You’ll learn together as well as support and hold one another accountable.

2.

Live Weekly Instruction

Held on weekday evenings at 7pm, our LIVE, 100% online class sessions are led by world-class instructors from a broad range of acting and teaching backgrounds.

3.

Experiential Training

We approach acting training holistically.  You’ll participate in live training, experience seminars, workshops and valuable one-on-one coaching to make sure you internalize and absorb your education.

Who We Are

Montage began as the Michigan Actors Studio, a state licensed trade school serving students locally in the metro-Detroit community. Our goal was to provide state of the art training for both established and aspiring artists here in Michigan. When we started, there weren't many affordable and professional options to study acting locally. While the short-lived Michigan film boom created a lot of small studios that flourished and then died when the incentives did, we were able to not only survive, but thrive. Why is that? We think it's because our teachers and staff are committed to two ideals that are at the core of who we are. One: that studying the arts is empowering and two: creating art in a safe space can be life-changing. If you haven't studied with us before, you might be surprised to learn that in addition to acting training, our students often find lifelong friendships and the momentum and support to make positive changes in their lives.

  • Where are you located?
Our studio is located at 1527 N. Main St in Royal Oak Michigan. Just north of downtown Royal Oak and just south of 12 Mile rd.
  • Do I have to pay for parking?
No! Parking is available for free in our private parking lot, located just south of our building and just north of the VFW Hall. There is also street parking on Euclid Ave. Please note parking signs.
  • Do you offer payment plans?
We offer payment plans upon request only. If you need a payment plan please contact us at studio@michiganactorsstudio.com and let’s see how we can help.
  • Can I sign up for a class after it has already started?
Registration closes at the beginning of the second session or when the class sells out, whichever comes first.
  • I've never acted before, can I still take a class?
Yes! We have classes for beginners of any age. All of our “Introduction” classes are suitable for adults with no training or previous experience.
  • I want to do film and tv- are your classes only for theatre?
Acting is acting, no matter if you do it on stage, in front of a camera or in your basement. To be successful, you have to learn how to act first and foremost. Once you know how to act you can learn film technique which is more technical and less about acting. Film technique is about adapting your acting to the film medium. If you are a beginner, we recommend that you have a few acting classes under your belt before you get in front of the camera. If you already have the skill and are looking to learn the technique, we do offer a Film Acting class that focus on technique only.
  • What will your classes do for me?
Honestly, that depends on what you want our classes to do for you. Here are some of the reasons that people take our classes: Acting is always something I wanted to try. I want to meet people and do something fun. I want to overcome my shyness. I give a lot of presentations at work, and I want to improve my stage presence. I need a hobby. I want to be a professional actor, so I need training. As you can see, there are a lot of different reasons why people take our classes. Everyone who studies with us will have access to world class training taught by industry professionals, the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the craft of acting, and all of this takes place in a diverse and supportive environment. What you do with those things is up to you.
  • Will you make me a star?
No. Anyone who tells you they can do that is lying to you. Unless it is Steven Spielberg. He could probably do that. If you know him, could you please give him my headshot?
  • What are your teachers like?
Our teachers are patient, encouraging, down to earth and knowledgeable. They are passionate about teaching and have over 100 years of combined teaching and acting experience. We also think we're pretty funny, but you'll have to decide that for yourself.
  • Who takes your classes--will I fit in?
We feel confident saying "Yes, you will fit in". How can we say that? We have an incredibly diverse student body. Our students are recent graduates, empty nesters and retirees. They are doctors, line workers, engineers, stay-at-home parents, college students, contractors and teachers. They are life-long Michiganders, from all over the US and recently immigrated to the United States. They are every color and orientation. It is really important to us that our classrooms are welcoming safe spaces. This means that the instructor and student together foster a non judgemental environment where people from all walks of life are able to bond over their study and love of the craft of acting.
  • How do I decide what kind of coaching I need?
One of the most important elements of a successful coaching session is having a goal. When you are clear about what you want, it makes it easier for our coaches to ensure that you get it! When you should consider booking an acting coach: - I have an audition coming up and I want to be prepared. - I want to be ready the next time I need to have an audition prepared. - There is something specific I'd like to work on. (A technique, a particular monologue) - I feel like my acting is "stuck" and I need a fresh eye. - I think I would like to be an actor/study acting, but I'm not sure if it's right for me, I want to check it out without making a big time commitment. When booking an acting coach is not the best choice: - I want to study acting. Acting coaching is NOT a good substitute for a class and here's why: studying acting is equally about action and observation. When you are watching someone else you can objectively see- without your own fears or doubts attached to it- what is working and what is not.
